In 2003 Kim and Kathreen started to look at their future in an attempt to identify what life could look like after they retired from careers as public servants. It was clear to them both that a passive retirement was out of the question. The thought of waiting for retirement cheques to arrive in the mail was not a pleasing thought for either of them. They decided to identify a career change which would provide them with the ability to learn a new career with quality of life and freedom from managers and supervisors as the two main outcomes.
It was during this time of investigation that two good friends suggested a collaboration to assist in acquiring the knowledge and confidence to purchase a rural property and start a quality operation for the breeding and sale of superior animals.
With much patience and support, many property inspections and attendance at sales and futurist shows a property was bought at Obi Obi and on 28 April 2007 the first animals were bought at a dispersion sale in Kingaroy.
The business plan developed by Kim and Kathreen includes close operational alignment with other small operators and leverages benefits derived from the support and assistance of friends already lucky enough to be involved with Droughtmasters and a rural life style.
